Suspect in Patrick County break in allegedly fought with, punched deputies PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A man suspected of breaking and entering in Patrick County allegedly got into a physical altercation with an arresting deputy and punched another deputy during the booking process. The Patrick County Sheriff's Office said Ronald Scott Richards Jr., a 30-year-old from Blacksburg, was allegedly found in the area of an attempted break in around 8 p.m. Sunday at the Dan River Grocery in Ararat. After being questioned by a responding deputy, Richards allegedly began fighting with the deputy who was attempting to take him into custody. According to the Sheriff's Office, Richards allegedly grabbed the deputy's metal flashlight and attempted to strike the deputy with it. The deputy punched Richards multiple times in order to gain compliance and eventually handcuff him, the Sheriff's Office said.
